What is Wind Energy?

Wind energy is kinetic energy generated by the flow of air, which is infinite energy generated by the unbalance of the temperature of the air on the earth warmed to the sun.
When it block the kinetic energy of the wind, it changes into pressure. It can use the windmill to convert the kinetic energy of the wind produce electricity.

Principle of wind energy generation

Wind power refers to the conversion of wind energy into mechanical energy by means of a wind turbine or other such device and the generation of electricity by using this energy. Wind turbines can theoretically convert up 59.3% of the wind energy into electrical energy, But in reality there is loss factor due to blade shape, mechanical friction, and generator efficiency, so the practical efficiency remains at 20 to 40%

Wind power is a kind of renewable energy, rich in resources, constantly renewed, distributed in a wide area, clean, and as promising alternative energy source in preparation for depletion of fossil energy in the absence of greenhouse gas emissions during operation the receiving energy.
In addition, since wind power is generated using wind, which is natural energy of the solar system, it is classified as a distributed power source in terms of system operation in that it generates power regardless of demand when the wind is blowing.

Location of Wind Energy Installation

Since the output of the wind turbine proportional to the cube of the wind speed (the output is 8 times when the wind speed is doubled), it has been mainly installed in Jeju Island and the East Coastal Mountains where the wind is strong. As it is depleted, wind farms are expanding to the west coast and Jeonnam area.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Energy

Advantages Disadvantages
  • - Immortal energy that can be obtained free of charge
  • - No pollution due to clean energy
  • - Low electricity generation cost compared to other renewable energy
  • - Limited installation location wind irregularity and intermittency
  • - The energy density is low and the size of the wind turbine is large.
  • - Wind turbine operation noise may occur

Wind Farm Development Procedure

Since the output of the wind turbine is proportional to the cube of the wind speed (the output is 8 times when the wind speed is doubled), it has been installed mainly in the windy Jeju and the east costal mountains, As the importance of utilization of wind energy increases and windy areas become depleted, wind farms are expanding to the west coast and Jeonnam area.
